Campervan & Motorhome Electrical Repairs
Once a fault has been identified, it needs to be fixed properly. At Keltie Campers Ltd we carry out electrical repair and remedial work on campervans, motorhomes, caravans and horseboxes — replacing failed components, correcting poor installations, resolving wiring faults and restoring systems to safe, reliable operation.
Repair work is typically carried out following an electrical diagnostic, which identifies the cause of the fault and confirms exactly what work is required. This ensures we're fixing the right thing, not replacing components speculatively.
What Electrical Repairs We Carry Out
We carry out a wide range of remedial electrical work on leisure vehicles:
- Battery replacement — removing failed lead-acid or AGM batteries and fitting correctly specified replacements, including lithium upgrades where appropriate
- Charging system repairs — resolving faults with alternator charging, DC-DC chargers, mains chargers and solar charge controllers
- Solar system repairs — diagnosing and correcting panel wiring, controller faults, poor installation and incorrect configuration
- Inverter and inverter-charger repairs — fault investigation, component replacement and system reconfiguration
- Wiring repairs — correcting undersized cable, poor connections, missing fusing, corrosion damage and unsafe installations
- Earthing repairs — resolving poor or missing earth connections that cause intermittent faults and system unreliability
- Lithium battery system repairs — BMS issues, CANbus communication faults, charging profile mismatches and integration problems with inverter chargers and solar controllers
- Victron component replacement — where Victron equipment is confirmed faulty, we supply and fit new factory-warranted replacements
Repairs vs Upgrades
Some vehicles arrive with systems that have developed a single fault and simply need one component replaced. Others arrive with installations that have been modified repeatedly over the years, where the most practical solution is a partial or full system upgrade rather than repeated repairs to an unreliable foundation.
We'll always give honest advice on whether repair or upgrade is the right approach for your vehicle. Where an upgrade makes more sense than a repair, we'll explain why and quote for both options so you can make an informed decision.
Victron Equipment — Replacement Not Repair
Victron Energy equipment is not repaired at component level by independent installers. Only Victron themselves carry out internal repairs on their products. Where we identify a faulty Victron unit — whether an inverter charger, MPPT controller, DC-DC charger or monitoring device — we confirm the fault, remove the failed unit and fit a new factory-warranted replacement.
As Scotland's Victron Approved Installer for leisure vehicles, we carry Victron stock and can source replacement units efficiently to minimise downtime on your vehicle.
How the Repair Process Works
Most repair jobs follow a diagnostic appointment, which identifies the fault and confirms what work is needed. This means when your vehicle comes in for repairs, we already know exactly what we're doing and can plan the job correctly.
For straightforward faults where the cause is already clear — a known failed component, visible damage or a simple wiring issue — repairs can sometimes be carried out without a prior diagnostic. Contact us to discuss your situation and we'll advise on the best approach.
Frequently Asked Questions — Electrical Repairs
Do I need a diagnostic before a repair?
In most cases yes — a diagnostic ensures we're fixing the correct fault and not replacing components speculatively. For straightforward cases where the fault is already clearly identified, repairs can sometimes be carried out directly. Contact us to discuss your situation.
Can you repair Victron equipment?
No — component-level repair of Victron equipment is carried out only by Victron themselves. Where a Victron unit is found to be faulty we supply and fit a new factory-warranted replacement. This gives you a fully supported unit under Victron's warranty rather than a repaired component.
Do you carry out repairs on lithium battery systems?
Yes. We diagnose and resolve faults with lithium battery systems including BMS issues, CANbus communication problems, charging profile mismatches and integration faults with inverter chargers and solar controllers. Where a battery itself has failed we advise on replacement options.
Can you fix a badly wired DIY installation?
Yes. We regularly work on vehicles with DIY or poorly executed previous installations. Depending on the extent of the issues, the right solution may be targeted repairs or a more thorough rewire. We'll assess the system and give you an honest recommendation.
Do you offer a mobile or call-out repair service?
No. All repair work is carried out at our workshop in Callander, Perthshire. Please bring your vehicle to us.
How long do repairs take?
This depends entirely on the nature and extent of the work. A straightforward component replacement may take a few hours. More involved wiring repairs or system work may take one to two days. We'll give you a clear time estimate when you book.
Where are you based?
Callander, Perthshire — 45 minutes from Edinburgh and Glasgow, within easy reach of Perth, Stirling and the Highlands.
How much do repairs cost?
Labour is charged at our standard workshop rate. See our Prices page for current rates. We'll always confirm costs before proceeding with any work.
